To have a decisive edge over its rivals, the XUV300’s 1.2-litre four-cylinder turbo petrol unit is expected to produce a maximum power of around 140 hp
Mahindra & Mahindra is all pumped to introduced a brand new SUV in the domestic market following the launch of Marazzo MPV on September 3. Codenamed S201, it is the homegrown brand’s another take on the subcompact SUV segment in the midst of less than favourable sales for the TUV300.
Recently, Mahindra also tried to mend the TUV300’s sales by launching the Plus nine-seater variant. The spy pictures of the S201 have consistently evolved through the last few months as the production-ready parts are fitted in ahead of the market debut likely towards the end of this year or in the early part of 2019.
The SUV boasts wraparound headlights with a sleeker profile, projector headlights for low-beam and reflectors for high-beam, LED Daytime Running Lights, LED tail lights with sporty signature, multi-spoke alloy wheels, roof mounted spoiler and integrated stop light.
The overall profile is edgy and boxy just as the SsangYong Tivoli it is based on and features a centre console, instrument panel and air vent design similar to the Tivoli. The five-seater SUV is more likely to get multiple airbags in the top-end, along with push button start, touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, reversing camera and sensors, etc.
The thick upright pillars should ensure ample cabin room for occupants. Competing against the likes of Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza, Ford EcoSport and Tata Nexon in the Rs. 7.5 lakh to Rs. 11 lakh region (ex-showroom).
To have a decisive edge over its rivals, the S201 with probable nameplate of XUV300 comes powered by powerful petrol and diesel engines. The 1.2-litre four-cylinder turbocharged petrol unit should be good enough to produce a maximum power output of around 140 hp – making it the most powerful in the segment by comfortably bettering EcoSport.
