Mahindra XUV300 Outsells Ecosport, WR-V For Second Consecutive Month

Mahindra XUV300 has made a strong statement in its opening two months in the market by outselling EcoSport and WR-V

Mahindra & Mahindra introduced the XUV300 on Valentine’s Day as its love affair with the sub-four-metre SUV space continued. The largest UV maker in the country could not get a sure footing in the segment despite selling TUV300 already and the likes of Quanto and NuvoSport did not fare well either.

Unlike the other three, the XUV300 is a monocoque SUV and is constructed on the X100 platform as the Tivoli that revived SsangYong’s fortunes in Korea and elsewhere. Within a month of its launch, Mahindra announced that the XUV300 had received more than 13,000 bookings and over 2.5-lakh enquiries.

The most promising subcompact SUV Mahindra has ever manufactured did not disappoint in garnering good volumes and finished its first month of February 2019 by registering over 4,400 units. Just as that month, the XUV300 has managed to outsell Ford EcoSport and Honda WR-V in March 2019 as well.

Mahindra sold 4,742 units of XUV300 which were 501 units more than the EcoSport and nearly 2,200 units more than the WR-V. With 21 per cent YoY sales drop for EcoSport and 42 per cent for WR-V, the XUV300 appears to have eaten into their sales – let alone the massive 65 per cent YoY drop for TUV300. While Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza comfortably sits on top of the segment’s sales, the XUV300 is expected to throw a tough challenge to the second-placed Tata Nexon in the coming months.

Prices for the Mahindra XUV300 start at Rs. 7.90 lakh for the entry-level W4 variant and it goes all the way up to Rs. 11.99 lakh (both prices, ex-showroom) for the range-topping W8 optional. Right from the base variant, the XUV300 is offered with appreciable amount of features and it gets better moving higher up the grade.

The five-seater, despite having the lowest luggage volume in its class, is roomy for five passengers and comes with several segment-first features such as dual-zone automatic climate control system, seven airbags, front parking sensors, disc brakes on all four wheels, heated wing mirrors, etc.

It is powered by a 1.2-litre turbocharged petrol engine producing 110 PS and 200 Nm while the 1.5-litre diesel motor sourced from Marazzo develops 115 PS and 300 Nm. This powertrain lineup makes the XUV300 torquiest in its segment and the engines can be had with a six-speed manual currently and a six-speed AMT transmission will be introduced soon.
