At the moment, the TUV300 and the NuvoSport are the two models that Mahindra and Mahindra have pitted against the Maruti Vitara Brezza, Ford EcoSport, and Tata Nexon. Come October 2018 and Mahindra will launch an all new-model that looks likely to become a worthy competitor to the above rivals. The XUV 300 will be a world-class model that will meet international crash safety norms. It’s loosely based on the Ssangyong Tivoli sub-compact SUV.
The upcoming Maruti Vitara competitor is internally codenamed as the S201 and looks all set to go on sale as the Mahindra XUV 300. The company will even launch a slightly bigger version, which is internally codenamed as the S202 and will rival the Hyundai Creta. Initially, however, we will be having only the S201 on sale in the country.
Going by the various spy images and the design of the Ssangyong Tivoli, it will be safe to assume that the Mahindra XUV 300 would offer a bold and muscular design. The cabin will have enough space to seat five adults in reasonable comfort. The cabin will be brimming with convenience- and comfort-enhancing features, at least on the top-spec trim.
Features on offer should include a multi-utility steering wheel, automatic air conditioner, and a touchscreen infotainment system with voice commands, Bluetooth Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
Underpinning the Mahindra XUV 300 will be the same platform that supports the Ssangyong Tivoli. The new sub-4-metre compact SUV will go on sale with a 1.5-litre diesel engine that will make its debut on the Mahindra TUV300. We’re expecting the SUV to be available in both 2WD and 4WD options.
Transmission choices will include manual and automatic units. Prices of the Mahindra XUV300 are likely to start at Rs 8 lakh and extend till Rs 12 lakh. It will become the most modern compact SUV in the UV maker’s model portfolio.
