Production of the Mahindra Thar Signature Edition will be limited to just 700 units to maintain its exclusivity

Mahindra & Mahindra has already begun testing the next generation Thar off-roader on Indian soil and it will likely have evolutionary take on the design along with a number of interior changes and an updated powertrain. The existing Thar is a unique model within the brand’s portfolio in India and it summarizes everything Mahindra is all about.

It will be put out of production by around October this year and thus effectively making way for the new model in early 2020 with a possible debut at 2020 Auto Expo. It does not comply with the forthcoming BNVSAP crash test regulations and thus has to be let go but it will be ending its more than nine-year reign with a bang.

A report emerged on the internet suggests that the largest passenger UV maker in the country will be launching the special Signature Edition of the Thar soon. It will help in clearing out the stocks besides acting act as homage for the off-roader. The Mahindra Thar Signature Edition will be retailed in two bespoke colour schemes.

In addition to the Napoli Black and Aqua Marine shades that are already seen on the successfully running Marazzo MPV, the interior will have its share of updates. Mahindra will restrict the production of the Thar Signature Edition to just 700 examples underlining the exclusivity.

On the outside, the Mahindra Thar Signature Edition gets the Signature logo on the fenders, Marksman black decals on the bonnet lid, silver garnished front bumper, and it rides on 15-inch multi-spoke alloy wheels. The Signature Edition badge bears the special signature of Anand Mahindra, the Chairman of Mahindra Group as well.

The cabin adorns leather seat covers and front facing rear seats. The current-gen Thar is powered by the 2.5-litre M2DICR diesel engine producing 63 bhp and 195 Nm while the 2.5-litre CRDe unit kicks out 105 bhp and 247 Nm. Only the CRDe engine will be sold with the Signature Edition.
