Mahindra Thar Signature Edition 2

Production of the Mahindra Thar Signature Edition is limited to just 700 units and it comes with ABS as standard

In just a couple of days following the unveiling of the teaser image, Mahindra & Mahindra has today launched the Thar Signature Edition for a price tag of Rs. 9.99 lakh (ex-showroom) – sizeable price bump over the regular variant. It acts as a final hurrah of the existing model that has been in the business for nearly ten decades and commemorates more than seven decades of legacy of the Thar name.

The current Thar will be discontinued to make way for a brand new version sometime early next year and it will bear a number of exterior and interior changes as Mahindra has followed an evolutionary design approach while improving the crash test standards. It has grown bigger in size and is expected to offer forward facing final row seating arrangement.

Expected to debut at the 2020 Auto Expo next February, it could accompany the brand new Scorpio as well powered by the newly developed 2.0-litre diesel engine probably making close to 140 horsepower. The Mahindra Thar Signature Edition celebrates the success of the outgoing model, which has certainly formed a new off-roading culture in India.

Mahindra Thar Signature Edition InteriorTo differentiate it from the standard Thar, Mahindra has incorporated some notable cosmetic updates and its production has been restricted to just 700 units. Available in an exclusive Aquamarine colour scheme, the same paint job that can be seen in the Marazzo, the Thar Signature Edition boasts attractive styling updates.

It comes with silver finished centre part of the front bumper carrying the nameplate, blackened front grille, bumper and wheel arches, newly designed 16-inch alloy wheels as in the previous generation Scorpio and ‘Thar 700’ badging with Mahindra CEO Anand Mahindra’s signature embossed on to the front fenders and body decals.

The cabin does not get any significant changes barring the inclusion of black leatherette seat covers with Thar branding. The Mahindra Thar Signature Edition uses the 2.5-litre CRDe diesel engine with BSIV compliance producing 107 PS and 247 Nm and is connected with a five-speed manual transmission.

It features a Borg Warner transfer case with a shift to low range and has rear differential locking. For improved safety, the Mahindra Thar Signature Edition gets ABS (Anti-lock Braking System) as a standard feature. It should be noted that the DI variant of the Thar has already been shelved.
