Mahindra Thar RWD LX MT uses a 1.5-litre four-cylinder D117 diesel engine producing a maximum power of 117 PS and 300 Nm of peak torque
Mahindra & Mahindra revealed prices of the rear-wheel drive Thar in January 2023 and it currently sees high demand across the country. The Thar RWD is available in AX (O) diesel MT, LX diesel MT and LX petrol AT variants. At the time of the launch, Mahindra noted that the introductory prices are applicable only for the first 10,000 customers.
The brand has now hiked the prices of the LX petrol manual variant by Rs. 50,000 as it now costs Rs. 11.49 lakh (ex-showroom). However, the other two variants continue to be retailed at the same price as the base AX (O) costs Rs. 9.99 lakh and the LX petrol AT is priced at Rs. 13.49 lakh (ex-showroom). The Mahindra Thar RWD is sold only in hardtop configuration.
The customer deliveries of the Mahindra Thar RWD have commenced in India. Compared to the base 4WD diesel version, the AX (O) diesel is close to Rs. 6 lakh cheaper (on-road price) courtesy of the tax benefits involved in the lifestyle off-road SUV measuring under four metres in overall length and using a 1.5-litre diesel engine.

The 1.5-litre four-cylinder D117 diesel engine, also found in the Marazzo and XUV300, is good enough to produce a maximum power output of 117 PS and 300 Nm of peak torque. It is linked only with a six-speed manual transmission transferring power to only the rear axle. The RWD can also be bought with the 2.0-litre four-cylinder mStallion petrol engine.
The powertrain kicks out 150 PS and 320 Nm of peak torque, and is connected to only a six-speed torque converter automatic transmission. The Mahindra Thar RWD is retailed in two new colour schemes namely Everest White and Blazing Bronze, and it does not get any major exterior changes compared to the 4WD variant.
The equipment list of the Mahindra Thar RWD comprises a seven-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility, steering wheel with mounted controls, cruise control, LED DRLs, electronically adjustable wing mirrors, a cubby hole in place of the 4×4 selector, a semi-digital instrument console, etc.
