Mahindra to start selling Aircrafts in India as the possibilities are being considered; made by the company’s Australian aerospace division
Mahindra is truly becoming one giant brand with various ventures in automotive, agro sectors, and now the company eyes to grab the aerospace business in the country as well. Mahindra & Mahindra is mulling the plan to sell aircrafts in India, which are designed, developed and manufactured by the company’s aerospace wing’s Australian division.
Not only that, if the sales result meets the desired result, then the company might enter into production of aircrafts in the country as well. In that case it will surely be a huge boost to the much hyped make in India program. Presently, the company’s Bangalore plant builds some parts of the aircraft, while the rest are built in its Melbourne plant.
Back in 2008, Mahindra & Mahindra acquired the Australia’s aerospace company GrippsAero. The company builds GA8 Airvan aircraft, which is a single engine powered, eight seater airplane operating in 30 countries at present. The model has built a total of 220 units, but it doesn’t come available in India due to the civil aviation rule of the country.
According to Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), airplanes weighing more than 1500 kilogram have to manned by two pilots. Due to this Mahindra & Mahindra needs to redesign the GA8 Airvan’s cockpit to afford a co-pilot, which will ensure the plane gets necessary permission to operate in Indian air space.
In that case, Mahindra & Mahindra can launch its GA8 Airvan eight seater airplane in India in near future. Also the company is developing another airplane called Airvan 10, which is a twin engine airplane. Though the details about Mahindra & Mahindra’s aerospace venture in India is pretty scarce at present, but the company’s ambition is high and pretty clear as well.
