Mahindra Ssangyong Tivoli has been spotted testing in India for the first time, all set for launch in late 2016
Mahindra is on a spree of dominating SUV market once and for all. It is set to start fresh with the KUV 100 which will be its cheapest and the best small SUV in the market till date. TUV 300 is doing well in the same segment which is positioned above slightly. Scoprio and XUV are already bringing in the cash for the Mumbai based manufacturer and the rest of them aren’t doing a bad job either.
Mahindra Ssangyong Tivoli is one such product which the company clearly targets against two key products in the market that have come and instantly dominated their segment. That segment belonged to the Scorpio but it grew up, big time. Tivoli is set to come to the Indian market and yes, it will go against the Creta and Duster.
It’s a soft-roader SUV with monocoque chassis. 1.6 petrol and diesel engines could have class leading power and torque with the backing of Mahindra’s dealership and service center. The engines have been co-developed by Mahindra and SsangYong and could be featured on future models. In order to get things right, Mahindra has to get a value for money price tag for the SsangYong Tivoli though and then it is all set to gain a momentum in this highly competitive category which will see the Honda BR-V coming soon as well.
Mahindra is constantly at war with Japanese rivals such as Honda and Toyota to gain the top spot and be the number three player in the market when it comes to numbers. Honda has been introducing SUV and MPV to dethrone the Indian giant but has been unsuccessful yet. Toyota has to play cards of the Toyota Innova and the Fortuner which are helping it stay above the manufacturer. High hopes on the premium Tivoli are set and let’s see how it delivers.
