Mahindra Scorpio 1.99L and XUV500 1.99L Launched in Delhi

Mahindra XUV 500 Test Drive Review

Mahindra Scorpio 1.99L and XUV500 1.99L launched in Delhi; both versions will have new downsized 1.99 litre mHawk turbocharged diesel engines

Mahindra has launched the new Scorpio 1.99L and XUV500 1.99L specifically for Delhi in response to the government’s ban over registration of vehicles powered by 2,000 cc or above engines. The largest SUV manufacturer in the country opened door for sales two weeks back and now publicly announced their pricing.

The new 1.99L mHawk diesel engine propelled Mahindra Scorpio has been priced at Rs, 9.67 lakh for the base variant and it goes all the way up to Rs. 12.75 lakh for the top-of-the-line variant. The flagship XUV500 SUV strapped with the new 1.99L power unit will be sold for a starting price of Rs. 11.58 lakh for the base and Rs. 15.51 lakh for the range-topping model (all above mentioned prices, ex-showroom Delhi).

It’s worth noting that there are no price differences between the 1.99L trims and the regular variants. The all-new Mahindra Scorpio and Mahindra XUV500 come equipped with the 1,997 cc turbocharged diesel motor and the power and torque figures are almost remaining the same as the outgoing 2.2-litre diesel mill.

The downsized 1.99-litre mHawk diesel motor is good enough to pump out 120 hp of maximum power output at 4,000 rpm and 280 Nm of peak torque between 1,800 and 2,800 rpm in the Scorpio sub-utility vehicle which is same as the 2,200 cc engine. The turbo-diesel mill is capable of producing a power output of 140 hp in the XUV500 with 320 Nm of peak torque – the torque figure is 10 Nm down than on its predecessor.

The Mahindra Scorpio 1.99L and Mahindra XUV500 1.99L will be offered in front-wheel drive configuration only. The automatic variants won’t be provided in the 1.99L equipped models as they’re only sold in the above 2,000 cc engines.
