The Mahindra S201 test mule spotted recently comes with sunroof and we can expect it to be available only on top end variant
Mahindra is testing S201 extensively across different parts of the country. The Indian manufacturer is finalizing design as recent test mules came with production LED tail lamps. A prototype of S201 was spied on test in Ooty–Coimbatore highway and it featured sunroof, which was missing earlier.
The S201 compact SUV is based on SsangYong Tivoli platform and both models share lots of components, but the exterior design will be completely different. We can expect design inspiration for S201 to come from XUV 500. The production model will come with projector headlamps and muscular design.
The interior of S201 was earlier spotted and the design is shared with Tivoli but the company has made some changes like new instrument cluster and dual tone interior. We were expecting Mahindra to give a new design for dashboard and the age can be felt from its design as the centre console is loaded with lots of buttons.
Mahindra will pack S201 with lots of features which include touch screen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, dual zone climate control, key less entry, push button start, leather seats, cruise control, LED DRLs, alloy wheels, spoiler, revere parking camera, cooled glove box and more.
We can expect the Indian manufacturer to carve out good interior space for both front and rear passengers with excellent boot capacity also. The company is also focusing on ride and handling as they want the suspension to be tuned perfect for good and bad roads. Mahindra will offer S201 with both diesel and petrol engines.
The 1.5 L petrol engine is expected to produce 90 – 120 bhp of power and 130 – 150 Nm of torque. The 1.99 mHawk diesel engine puts out 120 bhp and 320 Nm of torque. These engines will be mated to 5 speed manual and 6 speed automatic transmission. Mahindra S201 is going to compete against Ford EcoSport, Maruti Vitara Brezza and Tata Nexon.
