The Roxor is based on the Thar and has an almost similar exterior design; uses 2.5-litre four-cylinder diesel engine making 64 horsepower

Mahindra’s North American division has finally revealed a brand new off-roader for the United States market. After being teased and elevating the anticipation, the Roxor has broken cover and it will address the agricultural and UV community in the US with its go-anywhere characteristics. Firstly, the Roxor possesses a striking resemblance to the highly-popular Thar. No surprise there, because the Roxor is based on the Thar.

The Roxor has been developed as a supple on- and off-roader since it will used by United States Federal postal service as well. Coming under the category of ‘off-highway’ vehicle, it features a muscular front fascia with vintage grille slats and flared wheel arches accentuating the overall appearance with round-shaped headlamps. It will go up against the likes of Polaris RZR ATV and Kawasaki Mule Pro models.

Built on a steel frame, the Roxor derives power from a 2.5-litre four-cylinder diesel engine which is good enough to produce a maximum power output of 64 horsepower and is connected to a five-speed manual transmission. More importantly, it gets four-wheel-drive system as standard and has its maximum speed limited to just 72 kmph as it is positioned as a off-highway class of vehicles.

Unlike the regular dealerships, the Roxor will be retailed through a new powersports chain of showrooms as it targets a specific marketplace. The Indian SUV specialist has opted to use traditional leaf spring rigid axles unlike the more modern independent suspension that some its competitors are suspended on. Mahindra says multiple number of colour and wrap options are available for the Roxor along with other personalisation elements like seats, winches, hard tops, etc.

Details about its official US market entry are expected by the end of March. It is manufactured at the recently inaugurated Auburn Hill facility of Mahindra in Detroit, Michigan where over USD 230 million are poured into the operations. Being brought into the country via CKD route from India, it is expected to cost at around USD 15,000 (approx. Rs. 10 lakh) and more than half of the vehicle is brand new despite being based on the Thar.
