There’s a lot more. The Marazzo is also claimed to eb the first passenger vehicle to have an FWD and transverse engine layout on a body-frame architecture. But is all this enough to give the Toyota Innova Crysta a run for its money? Here’s our Mahindra Marazzo vs Toyota Innova Crysta comparison to show how the new kid on the block stacks up against its arch rival –
Mahindra Marazzo vs Toyota Innova Crysta Comparison of Price
The Maindra Marazzo looks like unbeatable value for money in front of the Toyota Innova Crysta. Its base variant, which offers features like the segment-first Surround Cool Technology, dual front airbags, and ABS with EBD, costs Rs 9.99 lakh. Its 8-seater variant costs Rs 10.04 lakh. Even on being introductory prices, the Marazzo will stay a lot cheaper than the Toyota Innova Crysta even after getting a small increment after the termination of the introductory pricing scheme.
We say this as the base GX variant of the Toyota Innova Crysta costs a whopping Rs 14.34 lakh. The difference in pricing gets just too huge if you take into account the top-end variants. Currently, the top-end M8 trim of the Marazzo costs Rs 13.95 lakh for the 8-seat variant. On the other hand, the top-end ZX trim of the 2.4-litre diesel engine with the manual transmission costs Rs 19.70 lakh.
The fully loaded Touring Sports trim, complete with a 2.8-litre diesel engine and an automatic transmission costs Rs 22.70 lakh. However, we aren’t taking this into consideration as the Marazzo is yet to get an automatic transmission.
With this, it gets very clear that the Mahindra Marazzo holds a huge pricing advantage over the Toyota Innova Crysta. True, some of you might argue that the Crysta feels more premium and offers more space but one really can’t ignore the huge price difference. Hence, the Marazzo is the clear winner of this round of our Maindra Marazzo vs Toyota Innova Crysta comparison.
Mahindra Marazzo vs Toyota Innova Crysta Comparison of Specifications:
The Toyota Innova Crysta enjoys an upper hand in terms of specifications. With three engine options to choose from, the Crysta definitely holds and edge over the Marazzo. Engine options for the Crysta include a 2.7-litr petrol that outputs 164 bhp and 245 Nm, a 2.4-litre diesel that outputs 148 bhp and 343 Nm, and a 2.8-litre diesel that produces 172 bhp and 360 Nm.
The bigger diesel engine comes with an automatic transmission. The small diesel engine gets only a manual transmission while the petrol engine offers both automatic and manual option.
In comparison, the Mahindra Marazzo offers a much smaller 1.5-litre diesel engine that outputs a respectable 121 bhp of maximum power and 300 Nm of peak torque. It comes mated to a manual transmission. A petrol engine option and an automatic transmission are more than a year away at the moment.
It needs to be mentioned here that the Marazzo weighs 1.6 tonnes, which is 200 kgs lower than the Innova Crysta. Hence, much of the power advantage that the 2.4-litre diesel engine variant of the Crysta holds over the Marazzo is pretty much negated.
The Toyota Innova Crysta is built on a ladder-frame chassis. The MPV has a longitudinally mounted engine that sends power to the rear wheels. The Mahindra Marazzo is also built on a ladder-frame architecture. But the similarities end here. It gets a transversely mounted engine that sends power to the front wheels.
So, basically, the Mahindra Marazzo ends up offering benefits of both a transverse layout found on monocoques along with the ruggedness offered by a ladder on frame setup. That said, the Toyota Innova Crysta is the winner of this round of Mahindra Marazzo vs Toyota Innova Crysta comparison owing to the higher number of engine and transmission options it offers.
Mahindra Marazzo vs Toyota Innova Crysta Comparison of Mileage
The Mahindra Marazzo offers an ARAI-certified mileage of 17.6 kmpl. In comparison, the 2.4-litre diesel engine variant of the Crysta has an ARAI-tested mileage of 15.1 kmpl. The 2.8-litre diesel engine variant offers an ARAI-certified mileage of 14.29 kmpl. It’s very apparent that the latest MPV from Mahindra is more fuel efficient of the two MPVs.
However, one must keep in mind that the new MPV is lighter than the Toyota Innova Crysta. It also has a smaller diesel engine. So, the winner of this round of our Mahindra Marazzo vs Toyota Innova Crysta comparison is the new kid on the block.
