Mahindra is going to launch three all new models in Indian market and they are S201 (Compact SUV), U321 (MPV) and re-badged Rexton SUV
2018 didn’t start well for Mahindra as the company lost its third position to Tata Motors and Honda is very close to overtake them for fourth position. Both Tata Motors and Honda are posting good growth thanks to new launches, while Mahindra didn’t launch any new products in recent months except for XUV 500 facelift and TUV 300 Plus.
But the second half of 2018 is looking good for the company as they are going to launch three all new models in Indian market and the expectation from these products are really high as all of them are going to compete in high volume segments. The S201 is the long awaited compact SUV from Mahindra followed by U321 MPV and new generation of Rexton.
Mahindra S201 is in the pipeline for couple of years now as the new compact SUV is based on SsangYong Tivoli platform. But the Indian manufacturer has given an all new design theme for the compact SUV to make it stand out from the competition. The test mule spied revealed an aggressive stance for S201 with LED tail lamps.
The interior is going to be lifted straight from Tivoli but the company has given dual tone dashboard with new steering wheel and instrument cluster. The S201 comes with lots of features like sunroof, dual zone climate control, key less entry, push button, touch screen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Mahindra will offer both petrol and diesel engine with S201. The launch is expected to take place during festival season.
The Xylo is the only offering of Mahindra in MPV segment and the product has aged. The Indian manufacturer is developing an all new MPV, which is codenamed as U321. The name of upcoming MPV will be official revealed at an event in Mumbai on July 31st and it is the first product developed by North American Technical Centre in Michigan.
The 1.6 L diesel engine produces 125 hp of power and 320 Nm of torque. This engine could be mated to 6 speed manual gearbox and automatic gearbox. Mahindra will introduce petrol version later. The U321 also comes with long list of features like touch screen infotainment system, climate control system, leather seats and more.
SsangYong officially introduced new generation of Rexton last year and Mahindra will introduce it later this year in India. The Rexton will be powered by 2.2 L engine producing 181 PS of power and 420 Nm of torque. This engine will be mated to manual and automatic transmission options.
Mahindra will also offer four wheel drive system as an option. The Rexton will come with long list of features which includes touch screen infotainment system, climate control, 3D surround view monitoring, powered tail gate, heated and ventilated seats, ambient lighting, Nappa leather and more. We are expecting, Mahindra to price new Rexton aggressively in Indian market.
