Mahindra is expected to announce Inferno as the name of its upcoming compact SUV S201 tomorrow in India, to rival Maruti Vitara Brezza

Mahindra is putting final touches on its upcoming compact SUV, which is codenamed as S201 and the company is going to officially announce the name tomorrow. We are expecting the S201 to be named as Inferno and it is going to be an important model for the company as they are planning to shift focus from small SUVs to full-size SUVs and MPVs.

The upcoming S201 is based on SsangYong Tivoli platform. Like the recently launched Alturas G4, which shares many of its components with Rexton, the Inferno could do the same and it will reduce the cost for the company considerably. The exterior design theme will be completely different from the Tivoli as Mahindra has given the same front grille as Alturas.

The headlamps are expected to be projector units with integrated DRLs and a new bumper with fog lamps inserts along with faux skid plates at front and rear for SUV look. The company has given black plastic cladding running across the body and it continues the SUV theme, the production model will come with 17-inch machine cut alloy wheels.

The rear gets LED tail lamps along with a new bumper and the company has given integrated spoiler also. The interior of Inferno is shared with Tivoli as the dashboard is the same but the three-spoke steering wheel and instrument cluster is new with a screen in the middle. Mahindra has given black and beige colour finish for the cabin.

The Inferno is packed with features like touchscreen infotainment screen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, dual-zone climate control, sunroof, electronically controlled exterior mirrors, auto dimming IRVM, rear AC controls,  USB charging ports, reverse camera with parking sensors, cruise control, auto headlamps and more.

Mahindra is focusing on safety as the compact SUV come with 7-airbags, ABS, EBD, seat belt reminder and more. The engine lineup includes a 1.2 L turbocharged petrol engine with 135 PS and the diesel engine will be the most powerful in its class as the Inferno get 1.5 L unit from Marazzo with 121 bhp. These engines will be mated to manual and auto gearbox.
