2018 Auto Expo: Adoring Mahindra Stinger Convertible SUV Concept Revealed

Mahindra Stinger compact convertible SUV concept is based on TUV300’s platform; visually striking in its own right

Mahindra & Mahindra has really surprised us with a completely new concept SUV at the ongoing 2018 Delhi Auto Expo. What’s most interesting is this is a convertible SUV and first such model from any Indian carmaker. Dubbed the Stinger, the concept SUV comes sub-4 metre compact model and it is based on Mahindra TUV300’s tough platform.

While we have already seen Nissan Murano and Range Rover Evoque, Mahindra’s Stinger convertible SUV is unique and affordable one in signature Mahindra way. However, there is no confirmation about this concept’s production in future. We can hope that this car will be produced in a limited number at least though. In terms of design, the Mahindra Stinger comes wearing a styling similar to the Mahindra XUV Aero concept.

Mahindra-Stinger-Convertible-SUV-1.jpgAs Mahindra is known for making aggressive and masculine looking UVs, this compact convertible SUV concept too will carry a bold stance. It features a vertically slated front grille flanked by projector headlamps with integrated LED daytime running lights. The concept also comes equipped with a chunky bumper with thick skid plate at bottom.

Moving to side profile, we see Mahindra’s convertible SUV concept wearing side scuff plates, large and sporty alloy wheels, black cladding and two doors. At the back, there would be compact LED taillights and a chunky bumper as well. So far, this SUV concept will preview a futuristic model that will not only adopt stylish design language, but off-roading characteristics as well.

Mahindra-Stinger-Convertible-SUV-3.jpgInside the cabin, Mahindra Stinger concept SUV gets multifunction flat-bottom steering wheel, analog and digital display consisting instrument cluster. There is a large touchscreen infotainment system at centre console with piano black finished trim around it. Seat and upholstery materials are upmarket quality.

On the powertrain front, Mahindra could equip this SUV concept with a 1.5-litre three-cylinder mHawk100 diesel engine that is capable of churning out 101 hp of peak power and 240 Nm of peak torque. Transmission options could include both a manual gearbox and an automatic unit as well.
