Mahindra and Ford Mulling Over Global Partnership for Product Development

Mahindra and Ford would primarily focus on joint product and platform development; the alliance will help Mahindra to establish operations in US market

Mahindra and Ford are mulling over a technical partnership, which will focus on joint development of products and platform. With this partnership Mahindra is expected to be able to fulfill its American dream, which it has been nurturing for last couple of years. Incidentally, Mahindra and Ford collaborated earlier in 1990s to launch the Ford Escort in the country.

Both the companies are yet to confirm the partnership, but currently they are discussing the opportunity. Interestingly, Mahindra and Ford’s partnership is going to be the next big alliance deal right after the Tata and Volkswagen. Just a few days back, Tata Motors partnered with the German auto giant, under which the companies will jointly develop products and platforms.

Mahindra is known for its range of tough SUVs and the automaker is advancing with its electric vehicle technology as well. Apart from that, Mahindra is very much ambitious to expand its business globally. The company acquired the South Korean automaker SsangYong and famous Italian design house Pininfarina as well. With its association with Ford, the alliance would work globally to expand their respective business.

If the partnership comes fruitful, both the Mahindra and Ford will be able to roll out a whole new bunch of utility vehicles with shared technology and platform, which will not only reduce the production cost for both of them, but also increase the quality of the products.

In the domestic market, Ford has earned positive response with its cars like the Figo hatchback, Aspire compact sedan, EcoSport compact SUV and the Endeavour SUV. With its association with Mahindra, it will be able to develop more capable utility vehicles in the country, as the demands for such vehicles are rising here. So far, we can expect both the companies to announce their association in near future.
