Mahindra Alturas G4 is the new flagship SUV and has been priced aggressively at Rs. 26.95 lakh and Rs. 29.95 lakh (ex-showroom)
Mahindra Alturas G4 has a decent start to its tenure in the Indian market with a total of 216 units in November 2018. The recently launched flagship SUV competes against the likes of segment-leading Toyota Fortuner, Ford Endeavour and Isuzu MU-X. In its first month in India, the seven-seater SUV has garnered a total of 216 units.
In comparison, the Fortuner has maintained its stead in the segment as 1,475 units were sold despite 35 percent YoY sales decrease. On the other hand, the Ford Endeavour managed to garner twice as much as the Alturas G4. The Mahindra premium full-sized SUV is expected to shake up the segment though, as it has been around for just more than a couple of weeks.
The Mahindra Alturas G4 is a rebadged version of the SsangYong Rexton G4 and having driven it already, we can affirm that it has really good off-roading abilities. The largest UV manufacturer in the country brings the model via CKD route and assembles it locally.
The feature-packed SUV is aggressively priced at Rs. 26.95 lakh for the 4×2 variant and Rs. 29.95 lakh for the 4X4 variant (ex-showroom). Having replaced the old-gen SsangYong Rexton in India, the Alturas G4 has a ladder frame construction with use of high strength steel for toughness and durability.
It has longer wheelbase than its key rivals with ground clearance of 180 mm. It derives power from a 2,157 cc four-cylinder diesel engine, which is good enough to produce a maximum power output of 178 hp at 4,000 rpm and 420 Nm of peak torque delivered between 1,600 and 2,600 rpm.
The powertrain is mated to a seven-speed automatic transmission sourced from Mercedes-Benz. The interior comes with high quality fit and finish, and the Alturas G4 boasts highlighting features like HD touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, brown Nappa quilted leather seat upholstery and segment-first electronic parking brake.
Other main equipment includes 360 degree camera, ESP with active rollover protection, eight-way adjustable driver seat with memory function, two-zone automatic climate control, ventilated seats, nine airbags, etc.
