Toyota Rush is said to go on sale next year or in 2021; could be positioned below the best-selling Innova Crysta

Toyota Kirloskar Motor will reportedly launch the long-anticipated Rush in India according to a new internet claim. It is said to enter the domestic market sometime next year or in 2021 pointing the finger at dealer sources. The Rush is on sale in several international markets and it has been a popular volume seller for Toyota over the last few years.

It measures 4,435 mm in length, 1,695 mm in width and stands 1,705 mm in height with a wheelbase of 2,685 mm wheelbase and ground clearance of 220 mm. Toyota is currently focussing on launching the rebadged vehicles from Maruti Suzuki as it definitely needs to have a strong foothold on the market and it can only be achieved with consistent volume sales and a substantial presence in sub-10 lakh segments.

The first model to be sourced from Maruti Suzuki is the Baleno premium hatchback and it will undergo cosmetic changes. We exclusively revealed a couple of days ago that an official launch is on the cards on June 6. By next year and the subsequent times, we will see more rebadged Maruti Suzuk is getting introduced under Toyota badge in India, as Vitara Brezza, Ertiga and Ciaz will be procured.

Toyota could be encouraged by the sales of recently launched MPVs like second-gen Maruti Suzuki Ertiga and Mahindra Marazzo, and it may have elected to go with the launch of the Rush. If the rumour turns out to be true, we can expect the Rush to be positioned below the top-selling Innova Crysta. Then again, Toyota and Suzuki are jointly developing a C-segment MPV putting the Rush’s market positioning a big question mark.

Perhaps, the CBU import relaxation may instigate Toyota to bring the Rush to India in limited numbers? The fully imported models can have much higher price tags compared to their rivals making the Rush’s arrival largely unviable. Nevertheless, it will be interesting to see what pans out in the near future.2018 Toyota Rush Unveiled - India Launch, Price, Engine, Specs, Features, Interior
