2017 Mercedes GLA facelift gets cosmetic and interior revisions with added features; powertrain remains the same The Mercedes-Benz GLA facelift was spotted testing for the very first time in late November 2015 and after an year of intense road-test development, it had finally broken covers at the 2017 NAIAS (North American International Auto Show) that ran between January 9 and January 22 in Detroit, Michigan. The 2017 Mercedes GLA basically receives similar cosmetic changes as in the A-Class facelift with new Multibeam LED headlamps replacing optional bi-xenon lights, revised grille design enhancing its SUV stance, reworked bumper with new fog lamps and a refreshed three-pointed Star logo up front. Out the back, the facelifted GLA has a redesigned bumper and refreshed LED tail lamp cluster while the new standard springs increase the ground clearance by 30 mm. Moreover, Mercedes-Benz has brought in galvanized switches and some subtle changes to the instrument cluster. The GLA-Class maybe based on the A and B-Class hatchback platform but with its higher ride height and different body shell, it looks visually striking. In addition to increased chrome touches, the GLA comes with a new range-topping Yellow Night Edition with black exterior, contrast yellow accents in door sills, floor mats and air outlets, Artico leather and Dinamica microfibre seat wrap, etc. The potent GLA AMG 45 now gains shorter gear ratios strapped with same 371 hp engine. Introduced in three variants namely GLA 200 CDI Style, GLA 200 CDI Sport and GLA 200 Sport in India back in September 2014, the diesel Mercedes-Benz GLA 200 CDI is powered by a 2.2 litre four cylinder turbocharged common rail engine that develops 135 PS of peak power between 3,600 and 4,400 rpm and 300Nm of max torque between 1,600 – 3000 rpm. The engine is mated to a seven-speed double clutch autobox. The powertrain gives the diesel GLA a commendable fuel efficiency figure of 17.9 kmpl. The Mercedes-Benz GLA 200 is powered by a 2.0 litre four cylinder turbocharged petrol engine developing 183 PS of maximum power at 5,500 rpm and peak torque of 300 Nm between 1,200 rpm and 1,400 rpm. This engine is also paired to the seven-speed automatic gearbox. The GLA 200 has a rated efficiency figure of 13.8 kmpl while the range-topping GLA 45 AMG makes 355 bhp and 450 Nm torque. The series was expanded in India by the launch of GLA 220d 4MATIC Activity Edition last October. The facelift has arrived in India today and considering Mercedes' trend of introducing global products to its Indian showrooms within a flash, there is no surprise. The GLA 200 d Style costs Rs. 30.65 lakh while the GLA 200 Sport is Rs. 32.20 lakh, GLA 200 d Sport is Rs. 33.85 lakh and the range-topping GLA 220 d 4MATIC is priced at Rs. 36.75 lakh (ex-showroom).
