Reason behind it has been simple and uncovered now. Hyundai has silently slipped in CNG powered popular models of Xcent and Grand i10 to the list. Xcent has gone to the fleet market happily and Grand i10 sales is set to peak at all time high from now on. Its main competitors Maruti Swift and Dzire don't come with CNG options. Despite the fact Maruti is the king in the CNG department, Hyundai just went a notch above and played the premium card very well. We expect the CNG fuel option to come in the entry-level small hatchback Eon as well. However, we also think it will come with either the facelift or a new model which is a work in progress as we speak. Hyundai is providing a certified CEV CNG kit. This CNG kit is basically a typical sequential unit tuned specifically for petrol cars. There are other types of CNG as well but sequential kit is considered to be more efficient and reliable despite the higher cost of purchasing than normal CNG kit. The dual ECU technology system has separate injectors for petrol and CNG. The separate system will help deliver optimal gas flow to the engine and it devoid majority of the lag and provide performance while efficiency will stay high. The kit, as usual, can be retrofitted on any variant of the Grand i10 and Xcent at Hyundai’s authorized dealerships and service centers. Best part is that Hyundai is not voiding warranty on these vehicles. Christened as DEDST CNG kit, it comes with a dual system that we spoke of before. The system works automatically and switches to CNG from petrol after the engine was driven to 2-4 kms from start. Once CNG is over, it will automatically switches to petrol power. ARAI has certified the cars for mileage and it is rated at 24 km/kg for the Grand i10 as of now.
