The Datsun GO-Cross concept previews the potential crossover from the recently revived budget brand in India as early as next year The GO-cross concept is the Japanese company’s second concept car revealed in less than a year and half as the announcement was made at Nissan Global Headquarters in the Tokyo Motor Show arena. Following the footsteps of Datsun GO and GO+ family, the concept exhibits the rather fresh outtake for the brand striving to embark into the crossover segment that is being exploited not only in India but also the highly growing overseas markets lately. Featuring a large characteristic hexagonal grille with thick chrome bezel, the GO-cross concept comes with silver lower body cladding, front and rear bumpers. In addition to the nifty headlamps and LED foglights, the tall-riding crossover comprises of chrome wheels and roof rails providing a sturdy appeal to its own. It shares the same Nissan V platform as in GO+ MPV and could be powered by the notorious Renault 1.5-Litre K9K engine. With heavy localisation of parts, the production version might pose serious threat to the likes of Ford EcoSport. After three decades of absence, Datsun’s return was announced in 2012 and its first Indian car is the GO hatchback rolled off the production lines in March last year. More than 100,000 units were sold globally ever since the brand’s resurrection which marks the successful completion of the first phase of its return, according to Global Head of Datsun, Vincent Cobee. Alongside continuing the growth of sales and service networks in its four existing markets - India, Indonesia, Russia and South Africa - the company is all-set to introduce a new offering in our country at the beginning of next year based on the new Renault-Nissan Alliance CMF-A architecture that underpins Renault Kwid. Whilst expansion plans are in consideration to venture into other unexplored territories in Africa, Nissan’s budget brand is adamant to uphold its core values that are “Dream, Access and Trust” wherever they lay a foundation in.
