Land Rover Defender Successor To Be Named As Grenadier?

Unofficial Land Rover Defender successor has been named Grenadier; no link to the British marquee

By now, you might be thinking if it’s true or not. Well, let’s clear out the confusion first. No, the legendary British SUV maker didn’t name the Defender successor as Grenadier, but a group led by British billionaire Jim Ratcliffe did. It’s an unofficial project and the goal is to build a spiritual successor of the original Defender that would be sold to the mining explorers, forestry workers, farmers and off-road enthusiasts as well.

The project has been christened as Projekt Grenadier and it has no link to the British marquee. The Grenadier is being developed by company named as Ieos Automotive. The company wants to build the car with reliability of Toyota Land Cruiser and as the makers claim, this vehicle will overcome the original Land Rover Defender’s shortcomings.

As Ineos Automotive claims, this vehicle will come with superior reliability, better safety features and it will also comply with the latest emission norm as well. The company aims to start producing the Land Rover Defender inspired off-roader sometime around 2019 in UK and start its delivery from 2020.

Ineos Automotive also hopes to produce around 15,000 units – 20,000 units of the off-roader per annum and it would be sold across the world. Starting pricing for the SUV would be less than $65,000 (Rs. 41.80 lakh approximately). It is not sure, if the actual production model would be named as Grenadier, as this is just a project codename. The company is asking for suggestions online for a name of the car from public.
