Kia made its India debut at the 2018 Auto Expo. Along with global models, Kia showcased SP Concept which made its world debut at the Expo. The Korean manufacturer confirmed that the SP concept will make it to production and it could be launched as Hyundai Creta rival. Kia short listed three names for the production model – Trazor, Tusker, SP-Z and Trailster.
The company asked its fans to vote for their favourite name and Trazor was the name which got the most votes. The Trazor led the poll with 718 votes compared to Tusker which got just 270 votes. Kia is expected to announce the official name as Trazor soon. But the production version of Trazor is still sometime away as previous reports suggested that it could arrive by middle of 2019.
We can expect the dimension to be similar like Creta. Kia hasn’t given much detail about the production version. To keep cost down, Kia might borrow engines and transmission from Creta which is the 1.6 L petrol and diesel engines which are mated to 6 speed manual and automatic transmission. Initially, Kia will launch 5 seater version of SP Concept and later the company will launch a 7 seater depending on the market reach.
Even though people won’t use 7 seats but the option is always welcomed as even on Creta lots of customers are asking for a 7 seater version which is why the company is developing next generation of Creta with 7 seats. Kia will manufacturer the production version of SP concept at the upcoming factory in Andhra Pradesh.
Kia will also launch a premium hatchback along with a crossover in India. According to earlier reports, the Korean manufacturer is planning to introduce Sonic and Carnival MPV in India as these were the products which are popular among the visitors at Auto Expo. These products platform will derive more products which are specific for India.
