Keeway SR 250 will be a lot similar to the SR 125 including the old school design; will be powered by a 250 cc air-cooled engine
At the 2023 Auto Expo, scheduled between January 13 and 18, at the India Expo Mart in Greater Noida will see the domestic debut of a new motorcycle from Keeway. The Hungarian brand will bring in its quarter-litre SR 250 that will likely compete against recently launched motorcycles such as the Royal Enfield Hunter 350, Kawasaki W 175 and the TVS Ronin 225.
The retro modern motorcycle space has witnessed plenty of activity in recent times and new brands have also entered making it more interesting. As for Keeway, the SR 250 will draw several bits from the smaller SR 125, which costs Rs. 1.20 (ex-showroom). It will be interesting to see how it will be priced as it will make or break its volume sale.
The design of the Keeway SR 250 will be a lot similar to the SR 125 and many old-school elements will be a major attraction. It boasts spoked wheels at the front and rear, a slim fuel tank, dual-purpose block pattern tyres, an upright handlebar positioning, a circular headlamp, a single-piece seat setup, a chopped out front fender, side mounted exhaust system and so on.
As for the performance, a 250 cc single-cylinder air-cooled engine will be utilised and it will be paired with a five-speed transmission. The braking duties of the Keeway SR 250 will be handled by the front and rear disc brakes while the suspension duties will be performed by telescopic front forks and dual shock absorbers at the rear.
The Royal Enfield Hunter 350 currently has a starting price of Rs. 1.50 lakh (ex-showroom) and is available in three variants namely Retro, Metro and Rebel. The TVS Ronin also costs around Rs. 1.50 lakh (ex-showroom) for the base variant and it goes all the way up to Rs. 1.71 lakh (ex-showroom) for the triple tone variant with dual channel ABS and Dawn Orange colour scheme.
The Kawasaki W175 also has a starting price of around Rs. 1.49 lakh (ex-showroom). Expect the upcoming Keeway SR 250 to cost around the same price point or it could be slightly higher.
