The battle between the C2-segment trio of the Maruti Ciaz, Honda City and Hyundai Verna seems to be never-ending. While each one of these sedans holds an advantage over the other two in some way or other, the sales figures clearly depict there’s always a thin margin between the sales performance of these three models.
The June 2019 sales figures have been no exception in this case. Last month, Honda Cars India managed to sell 2,461 units of the Honda City, which has been one of the most popular car brand names in the country. In comparison, the Maruti Ciaz could find only 2,322 buyers, which is a little more than 100 units when compared to the City. The Hyundai Verna, with a monthly sale figure of 2,271 units, took the third spot.
Last month, it came to light that as much as 84 per cent of the buyers of the Honda City preferred the petrol version over the diesel. In the last financial year (from April 2018 to March 2019), Honda could find 41,072 buyers for the City, out of which 34,647 customers opted for the petrol variant.

In comparison, last year, the Maruti Ciaz, which has been the only real rival to the Honda City in terms of the sales numbers, found 35,001 buyers for the petrol version and remaining 11,168 takers for the diesel version.
The Hyundai Verna landed at the third spot with an almost 50-50 ratio for petrol and diesel variant buyers. In the last fiscal, the Verna could find a total of 39,568 buyers, thereby settling at the third spot after Maruti Ciaz and Honda City.
The rest of the sales from the C2 sedan segment came from the slow-selling models, which comprised Skoda Rapid, Volkswagen Vento, Toyota Yaris and Nissan Sunny. All of these vehicles saw the diesel version finding more buyers than the petrol unit.
