The Jeep Renegade India launch could happen in June next year, expected to have a starting price of Rs 10 lakhs, it will compete with the Hyundai Creta

Jeep India will launch an all-new SUV in the very lucrative small SUV segment. This upcoming model will be the India-spec Jeep Renegade. It will rival not only the Hyundai Creta but also the India-spec MG SUV, Kia SP Concept, and Tata Harrier.

The Renegade was earlier expected to launch in India around October next year. The launch has now been preponed in order to prevent the new rivals to take first mover’s advantage or the declining sales of Compass could be the other reason.

The India-bound model will be the facelifted version that was revealed back in June 2019. The Jeep Compass has been a stellar success in the Indian market and the great performance of the premium mid-size five-seater SUV could have pushed Jeep India to test waters of the small SUV segment.

The highlights of the facelift’s design include stylish LED O-ring system up front, sporty bumpers, and revised LED tail lamps with X graphics. In India, the Hyundai Creta-rivalling model will be initially launched as a CKD that will be assembled at the FCA India’s Ranjangaon facility. The company could be motivated to commence local production in case the new SUV becomes a sales success.

Of course, pricing would be a key and it will be very important for Jeep India to price the Renegade competitively. That said, they can still command a slight premium over the Hyundai Creta owing to their more premium brand image. Launching a smaller-than-Compass Jeep branded vehicle makes terrific sense for the company.

Internationally, the Jeep Renegade is powered by a range of petrol and diesel engine options. In India, the Hyundai Creta-rivaling small SUV should be made available with a 1.6-litre Multijet turbocharged diesel engine that will be mated to a six-speed manual transmission. The petrol version could be powered by a 1.4-litre motor that will be mated to a 5-speed manual transmission.
