FCA India has today launched the petrol version of the Jeep Grand Cherokee for the domestic market India at a price of Rs. 75.15 lakh (ex-showroom, New Delhi). Alongside introducing the much-awaited model, the company also announced upgrades to its whole range of luxury SUVs with pricing in an aim to bring more value to the Indian buyers.

Along with the new petrol, the Limited Diesel variant is the cheapest CBU import of the Grand Cherokee on sale right now in India for the brand at Rs. 75.15 lakh while the Summit Diesel carries a price of Rs. 85.15 lakh and the range-topping SRT at a massive Rs. 1.07 crore. The Wrangler Unlimited Petrol’s price remains at Rs. 56 lakh whereas the Unlimited Diesel will be retailed at Rs. 64.45 lakh with immediate effect across all FCA dealerships nationwide (all prices, ex-showroom, Delhi).

The newest addition to the Jeep range derives power from the award-winning 3.6-litre Pentastar engine which is good enough to generate a maximum power output of 289.6 PS and 347 Nm of peak torque. The engine is mated to an upgraded eight-speed paddle shift Gen II automatic transmission that is tuned to deliver improved overall performance according to the brand.

It has improved clutch durability due to the optimized lubrication and the shift response along with consistent smoother downshifts is also possible thanks to the improvements made. The Gen II eight-speed paddle shift transmission will also be sold in the Diesel variants of the Grand Cherokee.

The Limited and Summit variants now comes equipped with the new 75th Anniversary fascia with enhanced ‘billet-like’ plating on the grille slots. On the other hand, the SRT gets upper and lower cooling intakes up front as part of the new upgrade package. The other major visual enhancement is the presence of new alloy wheels as the Grand Cherokee Limited gains standard high gloss silver painted aluminum 18-inch wheels and the Summit with polished aluminum 20-inch wheels with Technical Grey painted pockets as standard fitment.

The top-of-the-line SRT model comes adorned with either fully polished, satin clear coated 20-inchers or 20-inch Matte Black split spoke wheels. The 2017 Jeep Grand Cherokee range will now be offered in six colours namely True Blue Pearl, Velvet Red (new), Diamond Black Crystal (new), Billet Silver Metallic, Bright White, Granite Crystal Pearl and True Blue Pearl.

Jeep has equipped some significant mechanical changes as well as the air suspension will be standard on both Petrol and Diesel Summit variants along with standard LED fog lamps. The Electric Power Steering (EPS) is opted in place of the electro-hydraulic power steering system for better efficiency and there are three new selectable driving modes: Normal, Comfort and Sport. The new ParkSense assist system includes a Start / Stop function that apply the vehicle’s brakes. For improved NVH levels, an acoustic windshield has been added across the range.
