After three long years of wait, Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) introduced the iconic Jeep brand for the Indian market. The luxury and off-roading focused SUV brand debuted at the 2016 Auto Expo and now forays into domestic scenes with Grand Cherokee, Grand Cherokee SRT and Wrangler Unlimited. The company will initially commence dealership operations in Delhi and Ahmedabad before expanding to ten in the coming months.
The Grand Cherokee is expected to sell in good numbers and will be brought into the country via CBU route as for now. FCA previously announced plans to invest around $280 million locally alongside expanding the Ranjangaon manufacturing plant near Pune for assembling Jeep models. Engine, Specifications and Mileage:
The Grand Cherokee gets power from a 3.0-litre EcoDiesel turbocharged, common-rail, V6 diesel motor which is good enough to produce a maximum power output of 240 bhp and 570 Nm of peak torque. The power will be sent to all four wheels via a Quadra Trac II and Quadra Drive II for Limited and Summit variants respectively. While there is no manual on offer, the eight-speed automatic with paddle shifters will do the transmission duties and help accomplish a rated fuel economy of 12.8 kmpl.

The Grand Cherokee SRT performance grade will be strapped with the massive 6.4-litre HEMI V8 mill, with Fuel Saver technology, developing 470 bhp and 630 Nm and it comes coupled with an eight-speed automatic gearbox with paddle shifters and electronically modulated torque converter.

The Grand Cherokee measures 4,828 mm in length, 1,943 mm in width and stands 1,802 mm tall. The wheelbase is rated at 2,915 mm while it has an ample ground clearance of 206 mm with cargo capacity of 1,025 litres and 1,945 litres when rear seats are up or folded. The Jeep Grand Cherokee brings an aggressive and muscular American styling into the fore. Whichever angle you look at it, you will be taken aback by its boldness and macho stance. It features a glossy black front end with conventional six-toothed grilled positioned in between sleeker headlamp and a menacing bumper.
The SUV is upright with bonnet bulges and has a rather straight forward side profile. It comes with stronger lines and masculine haunches besides Bi-Xenon HID lamps with signature DRLs, projector foglamps and LED tail lamps are offered as standard.
The Grand Cherokee is built on a UniFrame construction and has body panels and frame members welded and bonded into single unit. In the Summit version, 20-inch polished aluminium wheels are with mineral gray pockets while on the Limited the Cherokee is offered with 18-incher. However, on the SRT as standard buyers will get the larger 20-inch polished five-spoke goliath wheels and the 20-inch black vapor chrome spider monkey wheel can be bought from options list.

The premium SUV is spacious on the inside with adequate legroom and headroom. The dashboard has loads of gizmos and center console makes for a purposeful layout. The big steering wheel shelters a multi information display, audio and cruise controls while the instrument console is positioned behind the steering wheel. The LCD flat panel displays speedometer in either digital or analogue mode.
The base Summit is equipped with seven-inch multi-view display cluster, premium Alpine audio system, heated steering wheel, first and second row leather-trimmed seats, power liftgate, infrared dual-zone automatic climate control, interior front footwell and centre console bin lighting, keyless entry and go, Uconnect five-inch touchscreen infotainment system, tinted glass, remote key fobs, panoramic sunroof, vehicle management system, park assist and ESC among others as standard.
Along with the features on the Summit, the Limited grade comprises of auto high beam headlamp control, dual exhaust, ventilated front seats, leather wrapped and stitched instrument panel and armrests, rear back-up camera, rear entertainment system, rain-sensing wiper, Uconnect 8.4-inch touchscreen system with voice command and GPS navigation, etc.
The range-topping SRT trim will have eight-way adjustable powered front seats, adaptive Bi-Xenon HID lamps, dual heat extractors on bonnet, electronic limited slip differential, leather wrapped upper door trim, instrument panel and centre armrest, SRT heated flat-bottom steering wheel, SRT performance brakes with red six pistons front and rear Brembo calipers, rear DVD enetertainment centre, Harman Kardon music system with 19 speakers, adaptive damping system and few others.
