Jeep Grand Cherokee and SRT arrive in India at the 2016 Delhi Auto Expo, Launch later this year

Jeep previewed the Grand Cherokee and Wrangler models to prosppective customers leading up to its Indian debut in the last few weeks and today the American brand has finally heralded its aspirations and strong SUV line-up for our domestic market.

The American manufactued owned by FCA(Fiat Chrysler Automobiles) are said to set-up new showrooms in Mumbai and Pune initially. The models will be sold through a CBU channel before manufactured out of the brand’s local facility in Ranjangaon with a a C-segment SUV waiting in the wings.

With its production unit, Jeep could make India as the manufacturing hub for right-hand-drive vehicles distributed to several international markets. The top-notch Grand Cherokee SRT derives power from a massive 6.4-litre Hemi V8 motor that generates 475 bhp and 465 lb-ft of peak torque. The engine is mated to an eight-speed shiftable automatic transmission sending power to all four wheels of the SUV.

It can run from 0 to 100 kmph in just 5 seconds and boasts six-piston Brembo brakes, blackened headlight inserts, 20-inch Vapour Chrome SRT alloy wheels with Pirelli rubber, adaptive bi-xenon headlights, five dynamic driver setting modes including Sport and Track and an Eco Mode that cuts four out of eight cylinders when not needed for better fuel consumption.

As for the interiors, the Grand Cherokke features seven-inch TFT Driver’s display, an 8.4-inch Uconnect touchscreen with navigation, unique leather seats, suede upholstery with carbonfibre trims on the dash, sporty flat bottom heated steering wheel with falppy paddle shifters and a 19-speaker Harman Kardon sound system among many others.

The Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT will compete against the likes of the BMW X5 M and is expected to cost around Rs 1.4 crore. The Grand Cherokee diesel will be offered initially in Summit top-of-the-range trim with equipment like a heated steering wheel, USB and aux-in ports, keyless entry and go, sat-nav, Bluetooth connectivity, panoramic sunroof, heated and ventilated seats, an electric tailgate, reversing camera, parking sensor and so on.

The Jeep Cherokee diesel rides on a 20-inch chrome alloy wheels and comprises bi-xenon adaptive headlights up front. It will get power from a 3.0-litre diesel engine pumping out 237 bhp of maximum power output and comes paired with an eight-speed ZF automatic gearbox. The highly powerful 3.6-litre motor is expected to arrive at a later stage.
