Jeep has currently more than 50 dealerships across India; plans to increase the number to enhance footfall
Jeep India is expanding its presence across the country fast to increase footfall. The American SUV manufacturer entered the country in September last year and initially it launched two models, the Grand Cherokee and Wrangler. Now, the brand is preparing to introduce its third model in the country Jeep Compass that will be the most affordable Jeep SUV in India.
Scheduled to be launched in the country on 31st July, Jeep Compass has already garnered pretty good response. It has already bagged around 4,000 bookings. Overall, FCA is betting big on this SUV and in an attempt to reach more customers, it is expanding its retail network very aggressively. Currently Jeep has around 50 dealerships across the country and the number is expected to grow significantly soon.
Due to the high pricing, Jeep’s initial offerings Wrangler and Grand Cherokee have been unable to grab a good share in the market where SUVs have massive popularity. The automaker is aiming to change the scenario with the upcoming Compass SUV and for that it needs a well organised expanded retail network.
Among the 4,000 approx bookings for Jeep Compass, the top-spec diesel model has received pretty good number of bookings. Deliveries for this model will commence in October this year and the petrol model will start delivery after a few days. The diesel powered automatic transmission equipped car will start reaching showrooms in January next year, with deliveries likely to start in next month.
To capture a sizeable share in the SUV segment of Indian auto market, Jeep is focusing on launching more affordable and smaller models here. The made-in-India Jeep Compass is a vital part of that strategy. At later stage, the brand is expected to bring the Renegade, which will be the smallest and most affordable SUV from the American brand upon its launch here.
