Jeep India will be launching the much-awaited Trailhawk variant of the Compass SUV next month in the domestic market and it has already been previewed for the media giving us information on pretty much everything you need to know about it. The range-topping model has several distinguished characters compared to the regular variant.
The Jeep Compass Trailhawk is powered by the regular 2.0-litre MultiJet II turbocharged four-cylinder diesel engine that can be found in MG Hector and Tata Harrier. The powertrain has been upgraded to meet BSVI emission standards and it will produce the same 170 PS maximum power and 350 Nm of peak torque.
The diesel motor is not mated to the standard six-speed manual transmission though as Jeep has introduced the long-mooted nine-speed automatic unit exclusively on the Trailhawk variant and it will feature a start/stop technology for improved fuel economy.
Expected to be priced around Rs. 27 lakh (ex-showroom), the Jeep Compass Trailhawk comes with a slew of exterior updates as some focus on improving the off-roading ability. The redesigned bumpers and raised air intake have resulted in improved approach/departure angles and water wading capacity respectively.
The highlighting exterior features are Trail Rated badges, underbody skid plates, gunmetal-finished seven-slat front grille, window line and fog lamp surrounds, black anti-glare decal on the hood, newly designed 17-inch wheels, etc.
The Trailhawk variant is undoubtedly the most off-road focussed Compass variant within the range and besides the improved approach/departure angles and water wading capacity, it has red tow hooks at the rear, ground clearance increased by 27 mm and boasts all-terrain Falken Wildpeak HT tyres and all-weather floor mats.
The Jeep Compass Trailhawk comes equipped with the American brand’s Selec-Terrain Active Drive 4×4 system featuring low-range and rear locking differential with hill descent control. It also gets new driving mode known as Rock mode helping in improving the ride during uneven terrains.
Jeep has said that the performance of the air conditioning along with overall drivability has been improved in the Compass Trailhawk compared to the standard variant. Other notable tweaks include bettered lowered NVH levels and refined navigation and voice control systems.
The interior gets features like an 8.4-inch UConnect touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, reverse parking camera, electronic parking brake, cornering fog lamps, panoramic sunroof, etc.
