Ahead of the launch of the Jeep Compass facelift and two SUVs, the company will first launch the Trailhawk and diesel automatic variants
Jeep India is close to launching the Jeep Compass Trailhawk, an off-road-spec version that is based on the 4×4-equipped diesel variant. The Compass will even get a diesel auto variant, which is something that the buyers have longed for ever since the introduction of the premium SUV. A new media report claims that the company has even planned to launch a facelift for the Compass.
This is not all as the manufacturer will launch two more SUVs in India in the near future. While one of these will be a sub-4-metre 5-seater SUV, the other will be a 7-seater SUV that will be based on the same platform as the Compass.
The former will go on to rival the likes of Maruti Vitara Brezza, Ford EcoSport, Tata Nexon, Mahindra XUV300 and the upcoming Hyundai Venue, while the latter will likely be a Toyota Fortuner and Ford Endeavour adversary.
The sub-4-metre SUV from Jeep India is likely to be underpinned by the same platform as the Fiat Panda. The smallest SUV ever from modern-day Jeep should have bold looks and sufficient off-road capability. The new model will be produced at the company’s Ranjangaon facility and will have a high amount of localized parts. In fact, the new SUV could even offer an optional all-wheel-drive system.
As per the new report, the upcoming Jeep Compass Trailhawk will be equipped with a BSVI-compliant version of the 2.0-litre Multijet II diesel engine. Coming to the facelift, that is apparently not too far away from its market launch, it will be available with a BSVI-compliant 1.3-litre FireFly turbo-petrol engine instead of the current car’s 1.4-lite MultiAir2 motor.
The new 1.3-litre FireFly turbocharged petrol engine for the Jeep Compass facelift will be available in two states of tune – 150PS/270Nm and 180PS/270Nm. While the less powerful version will be paired to a 6-speed dual dry clutch automatic transmission, the more powerful unit will be paired to a torque converter type 9-speed automatic gearbox.
