FCA’s share in Indian UV market has increased by 11.6%; majorly attributed to good sales of the recently launched Compass
Jeep Compass is proving to be a game changer for FCA in Indian market. The Italian-American automobile group has seen pretty good success in the highly competitive utility vehicle segment of domestic car market with the most affordable Jeep SUV. In the first half of current fiscal, FCA has seen its UV segment share increased by 11.6% in the country.
Jeep India sold 5,106 units of the Compass SUV in the country market between August and September this year. It comes as the most affordable product from the iconic American SUV manufacturer. The Jeep Compass not only comes donning an interesting and aggressive design, but it sports several upmarket features as well along with powerful engine options.
Priced between Rs. 15.16 lakh and Rs. 21.37 lakh (ex-showroom, New Delhi), Jeep Compass challenges products like Hyundai Tucson, Mahindra XUV500. Interestingly, Compass has been designed specially for the emerging market with growing demand for SUVs. These markets include India and Brazil and as it appears, Jeep was right in launching the car here.
Localised production of the Compass SUV has helped it in keeping the price tag around Rs. 20 lakh, making it a competitive product. Absence of diesel automatic variant is a lacking point for this model, but the automaker is currently working on that and we can expected it to come here very soon.
As we reported, Jeep has commenced producing the global-market focused top-end trim Compass Trailhawk in its production facility in Ranjangaon. We can hope, the brand will start selling the Compass Trailhawk in domestic market in near future. If launched, this will surely enhance the appeal of this SUV further helping the brand to fetch more sales number and resulting in greater market share as well. Inspired by the success of the Jeep Compass, the automaker is currently gearing up to introduce more affordable Renegade SUV in domestic market.
