Isuzu MU-X India launch reportedly at the end of this year; acts as successor to the MU-7
Isuzu is a highly popular brand in South East Asian countries but as for India, it is struggling to find its foot yet. Vastly experienced in pickup truck segment, the Japanese brand is known for its expertise in making bullet-proof engines as well. It showcased the D-Max V-Cross pickup, dubbed as the first ever adventure utility vehicle in India, at the Auto Expo 2016 and has plans to expand its product lineup with the freshly established production plant in Sri City, Andhra Pradesh.
The SUV segment’s popularity would have certainly lured them to consider the MU-X for India, replacing the MU-7. Expected to be launched by the end of 2016 according to a report from Overdrive, the premium SUV will have a more trendy design cues and features as opposed to the MU-7 which did not move well in India despite being highly capable.
It will share components and platform with the Chevrolet Trailblazer, jointly developed by GM and Isuzu, and is expected to be priced between Rs. 23 lakh and Rs. 27 lakh. It has a dual slat front grille accentuated with chrome and the face looks similar to the D-Max V-Cross launched two months ago. It gets prominent bumpers, projector headlamps with LED lights, wrap around rear windshield, flared wheel arches, 16 or 17-inch alloy wheels, etc.
It measures 4,825 mm in length, 1,860 mm in width and 1,825 mm in height with a wheelbase of 3,050 mm and 230 mm high ground clearance. The interior layout and design will also be shared with the Trailblazer comprising of an eight-inch touchscreen infotainment system, automatic climatic control and cruise control besides features like reversing camera, traction control system, emergency brake assist, hill start assist and so on.
Currently, the MU-7 features 3.0-litre four-pot diesel engine developing 163 PS and 260 Nm while the MU-X globally has a 3.0-litre motor making 177 PS and 380 Nm. The MU-7’s motor could be carried over to the MU-X with slight power tuning. A five-speed manual and a five-speed auto are expected to be offered as transmission options.
