Deliveries of the Indian FTR 1200 S and FTR 1200 S Race Replica will commence from April 2019 onwards in India

India Motorcycle has today launched the FTR 1200 S and FTR 1200 S Race Replica in the domestic market priced between Rs. 14.99 lakh and Rs. 15.49 lakh (ex-showroom) respectively. Both the motorcycles can be booked across authorised Indian dealerships for initial payment of Rs. 2 lakh. The American manufacturer will begin deliveries of the flat track inspired bikes from April 2019.

Taking plenty of inspiration from the FTR 750 race machine, they do pose a unique stance compared to the brand’s rest of the range. To point out, the FTR750 racer was introduced in 2016 and dominated the flat track racing scene in the United States against the notorious Harley-Davidson brand’s challenge. In fact, it was influenced by legendary motorcycles such as Daytona-winning Big Base Scout.

Indian revealed the much-anticipated FTR 1200 and FTR 1200 S at the Intermot 2018 in Cologne, Germany in October. Deriving design cues from the FTR750 and FTR1200 Custom, the 1200 S has an upright riding position and is said to have agile handling characteristics.

Based on a brand new platform, the FTR 1200 S takes power from a 1,203 cc V-Twin engine, which is good enough to produce 118 bhp and 115 Nm of peak torque. The powertrain has 12.5:1 compression ratio with high flow cylinder heads and dual throttle bodies for better throttle response and superior power delivery according to the brand.

The use of magnesium has resulted in reduced weight while a low inertia crankshaft will help in reaching the rev limit quickly. It comes equipped with upside down front forks and rear mono shock mounted on the sides. For optimised low centre of gravity, the fuel tank is positioned underneath the seat, which will also aid in more even weight distribution.

The airbox has been placed directly above the engine for better airflow and the three riding modes on offer are Sport, Standard and Rain. Compared to the FTR 1200, the S version additional equipment such as LED Daytime Running Lights, peculiar design to the headlamp, a USB charging port, Bosch stability control, 4.3-inch LCD touchscreen with Bluetooth connectivity, adjustable suspension, ABS and lean angle control among others.
