India Yamaha Motor Rolls Out One Millionth Scooter

The One millionth Scooter is a Yamaha Fascino manufactured at Surajpur plant, Greater Noida

India Yamaha Motor Pvt. Ltd. has reached a new peak of success. The Japanese two wheeler manufacturer has rolled out its one millionth scooter in the country. The Surajpur plant in Greater Noida rolled out the one millionth unit in form of a Fascino. The two wheeler maker started selling scooter in India in 2012.

In September, 2012 the company launched its first scooter in the country Cygnus Ray, which became quite popular. Lately it has launched several other models including the Cygnus Ray Z, Cygnus Alpha, Fascino. Recently it has launched the Cygnus Ray-ZR. Apart from selling scooters in Indian domestic market the company also exports them to global markets like Nepal, Sri Lanka. Also these scooters are exported in several other overseas market like Mexico, Costa Rica, Dominican Republic and Ecuador.

Among these 1 million units around 80,000 units have been exported to the global markets. The Yamaha Cygnus Ray Z has been the company’s bestselling scooter in global markets. The Indian two wheeler market is presently ruled by the scooters. In recent past the scooters have beaten the motorcycles in terms of sales. Yamaha also eyes the space with its products. While the scooters occupy the 30% of total two wheeler market, the Japanese two wheeler maker targets to grab at least 10% of that.

In the present fiscal India Yamaha Motor has set target to manufacture a total of one million vehicles. Among these 4.60 lakh units are supposed to be scooters only. Talking about the achievement Hiroki Fujita, the chairman of India Yamaha Motor has said, the company has been very successful in the scooter segment in India. Also in recent past the company is growing rapidly. He is also confident about achieving the company’s goal to grab a fare share of the market.

The two wheeler market is growing quite fast. Last year the market has reached at the 16 million sales mark. The recent trends also show the growth tendency. The India Yamaha Motor has seen a 45% growth in the first six months of 2016, compared to the same period last year. The scooters manufactured by the two wheeler maker has seen a 94% rise in sales compared to the previous year.
