India wants to see all cars electric by 2030 which is a highly ambitious plan considering the changes needed to be made

Electric mobility is becoming more and more acceptable and popular across the globe. In India the scenario is changing, but very slowly. Till 31st march, 2016 only 22000 electric cars have been sold in the country against millions of fossil fueled cars. Meanwhile the pollution level in India has been rising in an alarming rate. Now the Indian government wants to change the scenario, and wants to see all the cars in the country in electric form by the end of 2030.

Presently, Indian government offers a discount to those, who purchase electrics cars or hybrid cars. This scheme has not enhanced the popularity of electric vehicles so far. The government is not giving up the hope though. Recently, Union Minister of state for power, coal, and new and renewable energy Mr. Piyush Goyal has revealed about the government’s ambitious plan. Interestingly, in US more than 4.10 lakh EVs were sold between 2008 to 2015.

In India there are 13 cities, which possess more than 1 million cars in each. National capital Delhi has more than 7.35 million cars, Bangalore has more than 4.1 million cars, while Chennai comes with 3.7 million cars. These massive numbers of vehicles are mostly fossil fueled. There are a large number of old cars as well. Therefore the risk of pollution is rising with every passing day.

In recent times, Delhi government, Supreme Court, NGT has taken some strict measures to curb the pollution level. But that is not enough. Now the government plants to encourage the companies to sell at least 6 million electric cars by the end of 2020.
