India-Made Jeep Compass Secures Five Stars In ANCAP Crash Test 1

Jeep Compass has achieved full marks with a total of 35.93 points out of the the available 37 in the ANCAP tests

The Indian-made Jeep Compass has undergone a slew of crash tests recently as part of the exercise conducted by Australasian New Car Assessment Program (ANCAP). The SUV has come out with high praise as five starts were awarded. The concluded batch of ANCAP rating was for cars built from September onwards.

It follows the Compass’ left-hand-drive version achieving five stars in Euro NCAP earlier this year. The Jeep Compass sold in Australia and New Zealand had been fitted with dual front airbags as well as chest, curtain and driver knee airbag as standard. The American SUV manufacturer has made available autonomous braking system and lane support systems as optional fitments.

In the frontal offset crash test, the body shell of the Jeep Compass has been kept intact with wheel intrusions and controlled pedal. More crucially, the driver and passenger’s head and neck regions were rated good but the chest and legs were only given acceptable points.

With overall score of 14.93 points out of 16 in the frontal offset crash test, the side barrier and side poll categories saw the Compass being given 16 and 2 points respectively. On the other hand, the whiplash protection was rated good. In the pedestrian protection, the SUV secured 29.01 points out of 36.

This was due to the Compass attaining good or acceptable rating apart from the A pillars and base of windshield. As a whole, the Compass scored a cumulative 35.93 points out of the 37 available in the ANCAP crash tests on its way to being awarded full marks.

From next year, the ANCAP will stick by a standardised testing rule as per the Euro NCAP and will have four categories of testing namely adult occupant protection, child occupant protection, pedestrian protection and safety assist. The final score will be calculated by the lowest performing section.
