Toyota Rush SUV could be introduced in India in the coming years; has the potential to rival Tata Harrier, MG Hector and upcoming Kia Seltos

Toyota has taken the covers off the Rush SUV at the ongoing 2019 GIIAS (Gaikindo Indonesia International Auto Show). Displayed in its range-topping TRD Sportivo avatar, the Rush wears metallic grey point job and the roof rail acts as kayak rack as well as cycle carrier. It has been one of the highly anticipated models that have not yet reached the Indian market.

Speculations surrounding the Rush’s arrival have been there for long and even this past April 2019 a media report claimed that the SUV will be introduced next year or in 2021 pointing dealers as the source. However, no official confirmation has been made by TKM (Toyota Kirloskar Motor) yet.

The mid-size SUV is popular in many global markets and it has the potential to be positioned against models like Hyundai Creta, Tata Harrier, MG Hector, upcoming Kia Seltos and Jeep Compass. If it arrives, it will strengthen the brand’s domestic SUV portfolio and will slot below the Fortuner.

The Rush measures 4,435 mm in length, 1,695 mm in width and has a height of 1,705 mm with 2,685 mm wheelbase and 220 mm ground clearance. While Toyota is working on introducing rebadged Maruti Suzuki vehicles, the Rush could be the much-needed authentic product being expected to carry on the success of Innova Crysta and Fortuner.

The rebadged Ertiga and Toyota’s C-segment MPV developed with Maruti Suzuki will consolidate the company’s lineup in the near future and it will be interesting to see how the Rush stacks up within the range. Elsewhere, the Rush SUV is sold in both five- and seven-seater configurations – two layouts being currently sought after by manufacturers.

As standard, a six-speed manual transmission is offered while an automatic comes as optional.
