Tesla CEO Elon Musk believes the Model 3 can outsell the BMW 3 Series and Mercedes C Class in US
Tesla has created a strong buzz around the world with its next offering the Model 3. A few days we reported about a production ready Model, which was revealed by Tesla CEO Elon Musk in his Twitter account. Now, the he is aiming high with the upcoming EV. Musk believes that the Model 3 can outsell the other premium luxury cars like BMW 3 Series and Mercedes C Class in US market within one year after production begins in three months.
The Model 3 has been the most important project Tesla has taken. The five seater sedan was first unveiled last year and according to the American EV manufacturer, this car can accelerate as fast as the BMW 3 Series and Mercedes C Class can. The price of the Model 3 is also similar to the two German luxury sedans, $35,000 (Approx Rs. 22.74 lakh) in the US market.

To make Elon Musk’s plan successful, Tesla is aiming to ramp up the production gradually. It plans to manufacture 1,000 cars a week in July. Then the production is to ramp up to 2,000 and 4,000 units a week in August and September respectively. By the end of the year, the EV maker is expecting to produce 5,000 cars a week and by the end of next year it could go up to 10,000 units a week.
Interestingly, Tesla would need to produce around 4.3 lakh units of Model 3 by the end of 2018 in attempt to outsell the BMW 3 Series and Mercedes C Class, which means the Musk’s company will have to manufacture more than Model 3 than the entire number of EV sold worldwide in 2016. No wonder, this is a very audacious plan, but if Tesla becomes successful in doing so, that will certainly bring a rapid change in the world EV market.
