India-Bound Renault Kwid EV To Be Officially Unveiled On April 16

Renault K-ZE, which is based on the Kwid will be revealed on the 16th of this month, will be launched in the Indian market around 2022

Renault will unveil its entry-level EV based on Kwid badged as K-ZE at the 2019 Shanghai Motor Show. The smallest electric vehicle from the French manufacturer will be revealed on 16th April. It will carry a lot of design cues from the Kwid hatchback.

The all-new K-ZE will be manufactured in China with Renault’s Chinese partner – Dongfeng Motors. It is expected to be launched in the Chinese market later this year and will be exported to many international markets too. The Kwid EV or the K-ZE is likely to be launched in the Indian market in coming years.

Dongfeng’s Chinese plant currently has an annual production capacity of 1,20,000 units. Renault officially unveiled the concept version of the electric hatchback at the 2018 Paris Motor Show. After that, many heavily camouflaged test mules of the vehicles have been spotted testing in China.

The production version of the K-ZE will be quite similar to the Renault Kwid, which is available in the Indian market. Because it is an EV, Renault may add a few futuristic looking features including a styling grille with LED headlamps. The tail lamps are also expected to be different and will get LED set-up too.

Renault has developed the electric version of Kwid in partnership with Dongfeng. Both the company have a joint venture, which is known as e-GT New Energy Automotive Company. Renault Kwid EV is expected to get a range of around 250 km and likely to get features like fast DC charging.

Back in India, the Kwid is the best-selling model from the brand, but it is not doing well on the sales charts. Currently, Renault India is working on an all-new 7-seater MPV that will be known as the Tribe. The all-new MPV will be an affordable product with features like removable third-row seating, which will provide great flexibility to the users.
