India-Bound Renault Kaptur SUV teased; could enter Indian market in 2017

Renault the French car maker has released official images of their new crossover, Kaptur yes its Kaptur not “Captur”. Renault Kaptur is a 7-seater premium SUV codename ‘HHA’. Renault Kaptur is based on the fourth generation Clio which is Renault’s best seller worldwide. The crossover will face tough competition from Mahindra XUV500 and Hyundai Creta and the upcoming Honda’s BR-V.

On the outside, the Kaptur gets a big wide grille with Renault’s logo in the middle followed by a new C-shaped bumper with chroming all around fog lamps. Renault Kaptur also comes with new sporty alloys with chromed spokes and black shades in the middle. Renault also claims that Kaptur offer more cabin space than the Captur which is Renault’s current crossover. The Europe based Captur stretches 4.12m long but the new Kaptur is expected to go over 4.4m in length.

Renault Kaptur gets powered by four powertrain options and is sharing same engine line up with Renault’s Captur which are:- Energy TCe 90 petrol, Energy TCe 120 EDC petrol, Energy dCi 90 diesel and Energy dCi 90 EDC diesel. Though there is no clarity for the India bound model, the transmission it is being offered with are a five-speed or six-speed manual gearbox and a 6-speed EDC (efficient dual clutch) automatic gearbox. Renault Kaptur might get an AWD (all-wheel drive) system for the top end variant.

However, the company claims that the model will not be launched with Kaptur badge. Kaptur will be placed above the current model Duster and will be causing a bigger hole in the customer’s pocket on contrary to what Renault Kwid has proved to be a pocket friendly car. This new crossover will be first hitting Brazilian roads and soon after will make way for its debut in India. Renault Kaptur is expected to launch in October 2017 with a more likely starting price tag of between Rs. 12 lakh and Rs. 15 lakh.
