India Bound Renault Kaptur Spied; will take on the Mahindra XUV500 and Hyundai Creta

Renault Kaptur is a compact crossover, which is expected to launch in India sometime in late 2017. Before that, recently the car has been spied testing in Brazil. The Renault Captur based model was unveiled in Russia earlier this year. After Russian market this car is going to be sold in markets like Belarus, Kazakhstan, Armenia, Azerbaijan and lately Brazil.

The Kaptur has been developed keeping the emerging markets in mind. The car is built on Renault’s B0/Logan platform, which is shared by Dacia Duster. In India, the car will use the Renault Duster’s platform. This will give the French automaker higher localization chance. Eventually it will help the company to keep the price competitive.

The muscular looking crossover comes with an expressive and robust design. At the front fascia it features sharp headlamps with LED daytime running lights, V shaped wide motion grille with glossy black slats, C shaped fog lamps, and skid plate. Apart from that it sports side body cladding, dual tone body paint, sporty alloy wheels, roof spoiler, LED taillights and rear skid plate.

Dimensionally the Renault Kaptur comes with 4,333 mm of length, 1,813 mm of width and 1,613 mm of height, 2,674 mm of wheelbase and 204 mm of ground clearance. The boot space comes at 387 litres, which can be expanded up to 1200 litres by folding the rear seats.

Power source for the car are range of engine options including both petrol and diesel units. The engine options are an Energy TCe 90 petrol, Energy TCe 120 EDC petrol, Energy dCi 90 diesel and Energy dCi 90 EDC diesel units. The India spec Renault Kaptur might come powered by a 1.5 litre diesel engine.

Expect the transmission options to be a 6 speed manual gearbox and a 6 speed Easy-R AMT gearbox. Incidentally, the 6 speed Easy-R AMT gearbox is available in the new facelifted Duster as well.
