The next-gen Hyundai Kona is expected to debut next year, and it will be a giant leap in terms of design as well as technology over the current model
The next-generation Hyundai Kona is currently in development, and the most recent spy pictures show us some interesting details about it. Although the test model spotted testing was heavily disguised, we can confirm that it will get an LED light bar on the nose, which will run horizontally from one end to the other.
This particular design detail seems to be inspired by Hyundai Staria MPV, which had its global debut last year. Other than that, the next-gen Kona will continue to get a vertically split headlamp setup, but it is a lot more angular in design than the current-gen model. We also see the silhouette of the front bumper, which also seems to be much sharper then before.
Apart from that, we see small glimpses of the LED taillights here, which also seem to have a vertically split design, mirroring the headlamps. The tailgate seems to have a relatively high loading lip, with a thick bumper and small windscreen adorning the rear. The new-gen SUV will look a lot more aggressive compared to the existing Hyundai Kona.
The next-gen Kona is expected to have a completely redesigned interior as well. The SUV will get a dual curved-screen setup on the dash, consisting of a widescreen infotainment touchscreen and a fully-digital instrument console. The steering wheel will also likely have a new design over the current-gen model.
The powertrain options to be offered on the next-generation Hyundai Kona remain a mystery at the moment. Reports suggest that it would be available with the same 1.6-litre petrol hybrid engine (141 PS/264 Nm) as the 2023 Kia Niro, among other options. An electric version – Kona EV – will also be available, and the manufacturer will introduce a performance version – Kona N – as well in the future.
The next-generation Hyundai Kona is expected to make its global debut in 2023. It will make its way to the Indian market as well, likely in just its electric avatar (Kona EV), perhaps in 2024 or 2025. Interestingly, the facelifted version of the current-gen Hyundai Kona EV, which was unveiled internationally back in 2020, is expected to launch in our market this year.
