MG Motors’ MG6 four-door sedan is based on the same platform as the Roewe i6; derives power from 1.5-litre petrol engine making 170 hp

MG Motors has introduced an all new MG6 sedan and it will go on sale for the Chinese market this year. It will be exported to its homeland of United Kingdom in 2018 and it has been developed under the ownership of SAIC. The four-door sedan comprises of an attractive exterior with sharp design details and long profile enhancing an already striking styling.

The front grille is premium with inspiration taken from the Mercedes-Benz A-Class Concept while the projector headlamps are finely lined with LED Daytime Running Lights. The lower section of the front bumper has large air intake and the bonnet has clean lines leading to the chiseled side profile. Despite all the changes, it carries forward the fastback profile of the old model.

The significant features are Zebra 2.0 touchscreen infotainment system, three-spoke multi-function steering wheel, interactive LCD instrument panel, turbine shaped AC vents, manually adjusted sporty front seats, carbon-like inserts and leather trim with contrast stitching.

The new MG6 is built on the same platform as the Roewe i6 that made global premiere at the Guangzhou Auto Show in China last year with petrol and hybrid powertrain options. According to media reports, the new sedan extracts power from a 1.5-litre turbocharged engine which is good enough to produce a maximum power output of 170 horsepower.

It is likely to carry a price tag of around $18,000 (around Rs. 11.78 lakh). As SAIC is entering India with the MG brand in around two years’ time, we can expect the MG6 to be a major player in its local sales aspiration down the line. It could compete against the likes of Toyota Corolla Altis, Skoda Octavia and Hyundai Elantra in our market.
