Baojun 530 SUV 7-seater revealed in China and the India-spec MG SUV is also based on this same model, which will be launched later this year
Baojun officially introduced the seven-seater version of 530 SUV in China. The company hasn’t changed dimensions compared to 5-seater version as the length is 4,655 mm length, 1,835 mm width and 1,760 mm height remained same. The wheelbase is 2,750 mm and the company reduced the boot space to add the third row of seating.
Apart from seven seats, the Boajun 530 also comes with a big LCD instrument cluster and the Indian-model is also expected to come with this same system. The SUV is now powered by a new 1.5 L turbocharged petrol engine in which the turbocharger is sourced from Honeywell and it comes as standard across the range.
This new engine puts out 150.92 PS of power and 250 Nm of torque, when paired to a CVT gearbox while this same engine is tuned to deliver slightly lower 149.56 PS and 230 Nm, mated to 6-speed manual gearbox. The company has made any other changes for the design or features compared to the regular model.
The upcoming MG SUV for India is based on Baojun 530 and it is expected to be introduced by the middle of this year. We can expect the India-spec model to come with this same petrol engine with manual and automatic gearbox options. MG will also offer the SUV with 2.0 L diesel engine sourced from FCA, which is also used in Jeep Compass and Tata Harrier.
This engine is available in two different power outputs 140 PS and 170 PS, we can expect MG to offer higher output variant as it offers more performance and this engine could be mated to manual and auto gearbox. The company might also offer the Baojun 530 based SUV with all-wheel drive system on the top-end variant.
The exterior design theme of the India-spec model is similar to Baojun 530 and the major difference between both models is the grille. The SUV is expected to come with 18-inch alloy wheels and the lights will be LEDs. MG will pack the SUV with lots of features and the company is going to price the SUV aggressively against the competitors.
