Hyundai would soon launch the all-new Kona EV in the Indian market, the upcoming SUV is getting recognised in the international markets and is getting awards

Hyundai India showcased the all-new Kona SUV at the 2018 Auto Expo and soon the electric version of the Kona would be launched in the Indian market. The Kona Electric is yet to be launched in many global markets including the USA and yet, it has started receiving awards from around the world.

In Spain, the Kona won the Best Car of the year award by ABC newspaper. The award is not specifically limited to the EV models and yet the Kona EV came out to be a winner. Hyundai UK was also honoured with the Manufacturer of the Year at the Next Green Car Awards.

The Kona EV would be the first electric car from the South Korean manufacturer in the Indian market. India is one of the most important markets for the brand and Hyundai also announced that they would manufacture the electric vehicles in future in India.

Hyundai Kona EV would be launched as a show of Hyundai’s technological prowess in the Indian market and a very small number of sales is expected from the SUV. The price of the Kona Electric would be around Rs. 25 lakhs, making it twice as expensive than the Hyundai Creta.

The Kona EV would be launched in India as a CKD model and the brand is planning to launch more EV models in the future. For now, the CKD model would be assembled at Hyundai’s Chennai plant. Hyundai India’s chief Y K Koo said that that the company will approach the market top-down.

Hyundai is already invested quite a big amount in the lithium-ion battery research and would collaborate with the local Indian sources for the parts. Eventually, India would become the export hub for Hyundai EVs. Hyundai plans to launch 38 Green vehicles by 2025, out of which 14 would be pure electric vehicles, 12 would be plug-in hybrids and rest 10 would be Hybrid electric cars in India.
