India-Bound BMW 1 Series Sedan Debuts at Guangzhou Auto Show

BMW 1 Series sedan will be slotted below the 3 Series and will rival against Audi A3 and Mercedes Benz CLA

BMW 1 Series compact sedan was previewed through the concept compact sedan at 2015 Guangzhou Auto Show

The much awaited BMW 1-Series sedan has finally made its public debut at the ongoing Guangzhou Auto Show in China. The car is based on the concept compact sedan, which was showcased at 2015 Guangzhou Auto Show in November last year. The sedan is exclusively for Chinese market and it is the brainchild of BMW and its local partner Brilliance Auto.

This BMW 1-Series compact sedan is going to be the fifth model from Bavarian automaker, which will be manufactured in China. It is the smallest ever BMW sedan and incorporates the brand’s latest design language, which can be seen in its modern-age larger luxury sedans. Despite being a small compact sedan, the 1-Series offers an upmarket vibe and premiumness, for which BMW is famous.

Up front, the sedan sports signature kidney grille with chrome trim, sharp and sleek headlamps with LED corona ring. The front bumper comes with a muscular appearance with large black air intake, neatly placed fog lamps. At the side profile, the car features bold multi-spoke alloy wheels, subtle creases, strong shoulder lines, turn indicator integrated ORVMs and chrome trim around glass area.

Rear profile of the sedan gets wraparound taillights with LED inserts, a chunky bumper and twin round chrome tipped tailpipes. Interior of this car comes with a multifunction steering wheel, dual-tone dashboard, 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system, rear AC vents and leather seats. In terms of space and comfort also, the 1-Series sedan comes impressive.

Power source for BMW 1-Series sedan is a 1.5-litre three-cylinder turbocharged engine, which can churn out 136 hp of peak power. A 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbocharged engine is also there, available in two different tune of power output – 192 hp and 231 hp. Transmission options include a 6-speed automatic and an 8-speed automatic gearbox. It will be offered in both front wheel drive and All Wheel Drive configurations. Pricing of the sedan is expected to be announced later this year.
