New Toyota Corolla will be launched across different parts of the world from next year; based on the TNGA platform with alluring exterior

Toyota Corolla is the most sold sedan ever across the world and capitalising on its popularity different body styles were introduced over the years. The new generation Corolla series saw an overhauled hatchback and equally handsome Touring Sport wagon earlier this year and now the all-important sedan has made its public debut.

Its global premiere has been hosted at the 2018 Guangzhou International Auto Show in China and what has materialised out of the curtain is of no disappointment. The brand new Corolla sedan will be sold in two iterations – a standard Sporty model bound for North America, Japan and other markets as well as range-topping Prestige in select countries of Europe and elsewhere.

The global Corolla sedan is in its twelfth generation and as expected shares plenty of design cues with the latest Corolla hatchback. Moreover, having been constructed on the TNGA platform, it is lighter and has bigger proportions than the outgoing model. The Japanese manufacturer has announced that the new Corolla sedan will be up for sale in the Old Continent and US during the course of spring 2019.

On the stateside, it will use similar powertrain options as the Corolla hatchback, which includes a 2.0-litre petrol engine pumping out 168 horsepower at 6,600 rpm and 210 Nm of peak torque delivered at 4,800 rpm. A six-speed manual with rev matching and CVT with paddle shifters will be offered as transmission choices. The new Corolla can also be had with the 139 hp 1.8-litre four-cylinder unit that has been carried over.

Toyota will indeed be expanding the 2019 Corolla’s footprint next year subsequently as it will be retailed in well over 150 nations. As for India, we can expect the new generation Corolla sedan to make its way by the end of 2019 or in early 2020. It will compete against Hyundai Elantra, Skoda Octavia and the upcoming Honda Civic locally.

While its styling will act as a deal snatcher, we do not expect any huge changes in the engine lineup except for BSVI compliance. The forthcoming Corolla sedan could be supplied to Maruti Suzuki under their latest deal to spawn a rebadged version in the near future.
