India-Bound 2019 New Hyundai Santa Fe Breaks Cover In Indonesia

The new Hyundai Santa Fe features a heavily upgraded exterior along with addition of new features and a diesel engine

At the opening press day of GIIAS 2018 in Indonesia, Hyundai has unveiled its new generation Santa Fe for Indonesia. Having made global debut earlier this year in Geneva, the new Hyundai Santa Fe receives design upgrades as well as more technologies, along with the addition of a new diesel powertrain.

The South Korean auto major has been expanding the reach of new Santa Fe through this year and now it’s time for customers in the Indonesian market to get their hands on it. It is expected to launch during the course of 2019 in India, marking a comeback after being put to sleep due to lack of sales late last year.

With premium SUVs finding more takers and Honda CR-V entering in the coming months, there is every bright chance that its rival Santa Fe will be back in the pack. The new-gen Santa Fe has an aggressive face courtesy of the frontal changes with sportier cascading grille, larger alloy wheels, sharper headlamps, modified tail section, bigger air intake and busy bumpers.

The interior changes have resulted in the Santa Fe being wider and more spacious than its predecessor. There is a brand new 3D instrument cluster, updated touchscreen infotainment system, new HUD, larger windows for better visibility, etc. It is sold in three engine options internationally as a 2.4-litre petrol and 2.0-litre petrol are accompanied by new 2.2-litre diesel.

The new diesel engine produces 200 hp and 434 Nm while the bigger petrol motor makes 185 hp and the turbocharged 2.0-litre being the more powerful of them all with 232 hp. Only in the diesel options the third-row seating configuration is provided and it could make its way to India. The engines are mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission.

The new Santa Fe comes with tuned mechanical components for better ride while the suspension gets optional load levelling tech to maintain constant ride height. Other main features in the premium SUV are lane keep assist, rear seat occupant alert using ultrasonic sensor, adaptive cruise control and safe exist assist.
